NASA recorded the sound of a black hole

 

You must have heard or read a lot about black holes, but would you like to hear the voice of this cosmic mystery?

The American space agency NASA shared the sound of a black hole on Twitter that our ears can hear.

NASA recorded the sound of a black hole at the center of Perseus, a galaxy cluster 24 million light-years from Earth.

The US space agency called it remixed sonification, and these sound waves were identified nearly two decades ago but were first heard in 2022.

This 34-second clip on Twitter has gone viral on social media as the sound in it is terrifying.

The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. The audio clip was produced using data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the recording was actually released on NASA's Black Hole Day in May this year.

These sound waves were discovered in 2003, but the frequency was too low for humans to hear, so experts remixed the sound to make the frequency audible.

Releasing the sound in May, NASA said that experts had discovered pressure waves emitting from a black hole that morph into sounds that humans cannot hear.

The sound of the black hole didn't get much attention at the time, but this new tweet has gone viral and the audio clip has listened to millions of times.
